Heat balance

Solve sensible heat rate, mass flow, or temperature change for a single stream.

Method & assumptions

Q̇ = ṁ cₚ (Tₒᵤₜ − Tᵢₙ)

Steady, single-phase flow with constant specific heat. Positive heat rate heats the fluid; negative heat rate cools it. The example uses cp = 4.18 kJ/(kg·K), a representative liquid-water value near room temperature.

Use enthalpy differences for phase change, large property variations, or refrigerant calculations. Shaft work and changes in kinetic and potential energy are excluded.

Build confidence in the result.

Record assumptions and compare against independent evidence using the simulation validation guide.
