Thermal resistance network
Combine planar conduction layers and convection to estimate temperature rise.
Conduction layers
Method & assumptions
Rₜₒₜ = Σ Lᵢ/(kᵢA) + 1/(hA)
Tₛₒᵤᵣ꜀ₑ = T∞ + Q̇ Rₜₒₜ
Steady one-dimensional conduction through flat layers in series, with a single convection boundary. All heat passes through every layer and the same area. Material properties and convection coefficient are constant.
Contact resistance, spreading, parallel paths, internal heat generation, and radiation are excluded. Use an appropriate geometry model for tubes and radial conduction.
Build confidence in the result.
Record assumptions and compare against independent evidence using the simulation validation guide.
